I wear gloves when I'm using angle grinders, band saws, welding obviously, and even bench grinders etc. I wouldn't use gloves with the mill though you are right. Other people wouldn't wear gloves on the bench grinders etc, but I do, and I've never been concerned with entrapment.
freeclimbmtb 14 күн мурун
Gloves for anything cutting/grinding/welding. No gloves for anything where the machine could grab the glove and suck your hand in. (Mill, lathe, drill press.) leather/mechanix gloves for general handling of heavy/sharp items, black nitrile for anything greasy/dirty.

Anything rotating no gloves
TheMajekalBum 5 ай мурун
GLOVE RULE: Wear them all the time unless they could potentially get caught in/on large actively spinning machinery(bench grinder/polisher/mill/lathe). Set up with gloves on, but run the machine with them off if your hands must be close to the spinning bits(remember that tools are your friends). Although gloves protect, they do make you a bit more clumsy as the trade off and industrial tools are not forgiving in any sense. Last thing you want is for the machine to start pulling you in, your a lot softer than what it usually works on...

Im a mechanical fitter/ fabricator. I get to work and put gloves on, take them off to eat lunch and thats it. Keep hands away from spinning stuff and think before you move. In certain situations i will take gloves off to feel something and or itricate work like fitting small fastners in a tight spot. I also switch from nitrile gloves to anti cut gloves depending on what im doing, nitrile on a lathe because of cutting fluid ect. Plus god forbid i put my hand in they would just rip. But the rule is, dont put your hands anywhere you wouldnt stick your dick. Think about it, works well. I like my hands clean and free of chemicals and swarfe.

I use gloves almost all the time, only for oily stuff not. But Brakes, Metalwork, Welding and sharp stuff, I always wear gloves.

If you're looking for some ideas on how to handle the front end, there's this one LS swapped 240z that had a completely custom body done where the front fenders had a sort of buttressed edge to the fender, like the scoop behind the wheel was so large it was basically all one big cutout. like the whole thing wrapped over the tire but it cut out at the back with a large vent. The lines actually complimented the car quite well, given the size of tires it had to fit www.superstreetonline.com/features/1903-1972-datsun-240z-american-revolution

Once again too thick and you should get a bead roller so you can make a thin panel stiff. As for gloves, definitely use them for handling feral cats and rodents. Obviously use them for welding. I like gloves for tasks that throw a lot of sparks like an angle grinder or hot chips like cutting aluminum with a router or table saw. Never when using a mill, lathe, drill press or bandsaw. And speaking of bandsaws, you needed a lower TPI blade for cutting that aluminum. It will cut a lot faster and with less pressure with an appropriate and sharp blade.

I've always been a Black Stallion guy. I just bought the same Miller gloves a couple weeks ago. Now I understand why they're so damn expensive. They're super comfortable, and they really do prevent arc shock. I stick weld for a living. I haven't gotten arc shocked one time since I've used the Millers. I'm sold for sure.

As a machinist for 28 years I've never worn gloves, keeps them from ever getting caught in machinery. But you'll end up cutting your hands and getting splinters. But you'll no longer have bitch mittens. Coolant and hand cleaner will soften up the calluses youll gain.

Have you considered making channels in the flat bottom to direct air? Air will get in between the ground and the interior of the car, if you direct that air with channels it will flow better.

I wear Latex/Nitril gloves all time for everything in the garage. Doesn´t help that much against scraches but against all toxic things(brake cleaner, oil, dot 3 etc ) , dirt and shavings from everything. Pro you have the best feeling of all for wrenching and you can´t get catchend with them in a drill or the angle grinder or in brushes For welding of course welding gloves even though i like them in the winter while working.

when working with metal look into miller metalworker gloves (#251067) is what i use. when it comes to welding use your favorite go to welding gloves but the miller metalworker gloves i have had the best luck out of so you dont get cut, metal slivers and such.

For metal work and working on cars I'll use gloves on everything that cant de-glove my hand or de-shirt me. (Sawzall, bandsaw, low power hand drills, impact tools, and some higher power drills). Once saw an angle grinder take off a friends shirt, once saw a lathe take... thats a little gruesome so nvm... But you get the idea.

If you use it on a Miller lite it could get sucked in to the spindle and you will lose quite a bit mostly your hands same with like wearing long sleeves or growing out your hair stupidly long like a ponytail or having baggy clothing it's just better to tuck in your pants and shirt when you do that run a Mills or lays welding don't work tethers clothing because that catches fire faster faster than you can even say fire or put it out I know because there's a kid in my welding class who are worried that the most hatter jeans I've seen and in the crotch area he had a tattered spot and as he was welding some spatter caught his crotch area on fire and he got soaked with the crunch tank holes luckily somebody was over there to put them out he was walking around the rest of the day with wet soap and pants because he worked at her jeans but yeah when welding it's smart to wear gloves to keep the heat out and if you feel like wearing gloves while putting in tooling or changing tooling that is perfectly fine it's just not why the machine is running it's not smart because your finger and your hand will easily get sucked into the spindle also if you use sandpaper on a lathe do not bring the bottom like if you throw it over the back side and you're holding it as if you're polishing somebody's shoe do not bring your two hands together otherwise your thumb will get sucked in and pretty much shatter it's not pretty I've seen a kid lose a good majority of his fingernail doing that also if you go to touch off with a piece of paper be very very careful because you're you can slip I should know the first time I did it I accidentally slipped into the mill and I was doing so well until that one point try to touch off you have to leave the spindle running get really close and up to it so many bumped into me just a little bit my finger slid into the end Mill didn't cut into the bone but it got really close got 5 days off of school loved it even though it was on a Friday still got my day Tuesday off but yeah be careful you can lose a limb faster than you'd think it's a lot like driving take the necessary safeties into mind I don't like being one of those people who tells you what to do I can't make you do anything you don't want to just keep this stuff in mind no it might be a lot to read but I love what you do I love what you're doing with the channel you inspire me to push myself to do better and to learn what I can do not what I can't and I am the ability to your passion to the full extent that is something I am working on anyways rob you have a slow day and God bless I'll be praying for you dude don't let people keep pushing you down love what you do keep up the amazing work

As has been said here over and again, no gloves near anything that is rotational in its operation process. Period. Ever. Just don’t do it. The horror stories are few but brutal in the shop where I work which is with very large format sheet-fed printing presses and a beast of a web press. However when we are dealing with ancillary materials (aluminum printing plates to be specific for part of my job) gloves are a must. We use neoprene coated knit gloves for that. Not advertising for one specific brand but HyFlex gloves are the standard. Watch Formula 1 racing coverage and pretty much all you will see the mechanics wearing are HyFlex. Great dexterity and flexible AF. Much better than the bulky welding gloves you are currently using.

Just wear the industrial nitrile glove when you you want gloves on but full size leathers are inconvenient that’s just me though
Why 4 inches? is it due to registration purposes? is it due to 4" being the optimum height for aero (doubt it) is it because that is the current lowest point of the car with all of the suspension geometry set at that height ?
